Bradford, Jack

John Thomas Ferrow “Jack” Bradford, passed away peacefully at Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, B.C., on 12 December 2008, at the age of 73 years.

Jack was born in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan on March 2, 1935. His working career started in his brother Jim’s garage in Saltcoats, then in paper mills in Edmonton and Ocean Falls. In 1956, he started working for Alcan in Kitimat as a Warehouseman, and in 1962, was transferred to Alcan Power Operations in Kemano, B.C. His last position was Foreman – Mobile & Heavy Duty Equipment. After almost 31 years with Alcan, he took early retirement and moved to the Enderby area in September, 1986.

Jack excelled at sports, namely Hockey, Ball, Downhill Skiing (was a ski instructor in Kemano), Water Skiing, Ski-dooing, Golf and Curling. He loved fishing in the Kemano River, for big Salmon and Coho . He dabbled in Oil Painting, loved reading novels, and enjoyed playing music (Saxophone, Clarinet, Banjo, Drums and Piano), playing for dances in his younger days. He loved dancing and that’s how he met his wife, Dorothy, and they were members of the Salmon Arm Dance Club for several years. Jack’s last hobby was woodworking, specializing in the ancient Italian art of “Intarsia”, for the last 10 years. Everything he did, was all self-taught — he enjoyed challenges. In Kemano, Jack started up a Hardware & Sporting Goods Store, which he & his wife operated in the evenings & weekends, from 1968 to 1974.

Jack was the Icemaker in Enderby from 1986 to 1994, and was the Project Manager for the installation of the new curling rink floor.

Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Dorothy, of 51 years; two sisters – Dorothy Morgan and Isabel Morgan; one brother – Bob Bradford’ and several nieces, nephews, & cousins. He was predeceased by five brothers – James, Dave, Barney, Ken, and Roy who was killed in the 2nd World War in 1944.
